Crispy Egg Pakora Recipe
If you’ve ever craved a snack that’s crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with protein, then this Crispy Egg Pakora Recipe is exactly what you need. Known in some regions as egg fritters or egg bajji, this dish is a beloved street food favorite that can easily be recreated at home using simple ingredients.
What makes it even better is that it’s both budget-friendly and nourishing, combining the goodness of eggs with the nutty flavor of gram flour.
In this recipe, boiled eggs are gently coated in a flavorful batter made with gram flour (also known as chickpea flour or besan), baking powder, onion, and fresh cilantro, then deep fried until golden brown. The result? A crunchy, satisfying snack or breakfast that pairs perfectly with a hot cup of tea or a simple dipping sauce like ketchup or mint chutney.
The beauty of this egg pakora recipe lies in its versatility. It can be served as a protein-rich breakfast, an after-school snack for kids, or even a crowd-pleasing appetizer for guests.
Gram flour is naturally gluten-free and high in protein, making it a healthier alternative to all-purpose flour. But if you don’t have gram flour on hand, you can easily substitute with regular flour and still enjoy a delicious outcome.
Cooking pakoras at home also gives you control over the oil, seasonings, and spice level. While this version uses a basic onion and cilantro batter, you can elevate the flavor by adding chili powder, garam masala, cumin, or any of your favorite spices. It’s a recipe you can make your own while still keeping it simple and accessible.
What’s more, this dish is a fantastic example of no-oven cooking, perfect for anyone who wants to whip up homemade snacks without the need for baking. Using a stovetop and pan of oil, you’ll achieve the same level of crispiness that makes pakoras such a delight.
Whether you’re new to pakoras or looking for a fresh twist on egg recipes, this crispy egg pakora recipe will become a staple in your kitchen.

Equipment
- 1 Saucepan (for boiling eggs)
- 1 Mixing Bowl
- 1 Whisk or spoon (for batter)
- 1 Deep frying pan / wok
- 1 Slotted Spoon
- Paper towels (for draining oil)
Ingredients
- 8 eggs
- 1 cup gram flour (or substitute with all-purpose flour)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt or as preferred
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 tbsps fresh cilantro (dhania), finely chopped
- About ⅔ cup water (to form batter)
- Cooking oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Boil the Eggs Bring a pot of water to a boil. For best results, add ½ teaspoon vinegar or a pinch of citric acid to prevent the eggs from cracking. Carefully add the eggs and cook for 10 minutes on low heat with the lid on. Drain and immediately transfer the eggs to cold water. This makes peeling easier. Peel and set aside.
- Prepare the Batter In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, baking powder, and salt. Add chopped onion and cilantro.Slowly add water, stirring until you get a thick, smooth paste. (Approx. ⅔ cup water.)
- Coat the Eggs Gently dip each boiled egg into the batter until fully coated.Be careful not to break the eggs—they are tender once boiled.

- Fry the Egg Pakoras Heat oil in a pan. Test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter—if it sizzles and browns quickly, the oil is ready. Carefully place the coated eggs into the hot oil. Fry on medium heat until golden brown on all sides (about 3–4 minutes).

- Remove and drain on a paper-lined plate.Transfer to a suitable plate. Enjoy.

- Don’t Waste the Batter!Drop spoonfuls of the leftover batter into the oil and fry until golden. These mini fritters make an extra crunchy snack.
