This recipe is also affordable. Cream cheese frosting is very expensive in my country. I make my cream cheese at home without a mixer or blender too.

To make it even more affordable, I often work with marge. You can also use butter. If using butter, ensure to remove it from the fridge and let it rest on the counter until it comes to room temperature then use.

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 spoon
  • 1 sieve
  • Measuring cups and spoons as needed

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsps (heaped) cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp (heaped) marge (You can use unsalted butter, softened)
  • 2 cups powdered/ icing sugar
  • ¼ tsp vanilla flavoring
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • A few drops of milk as needed (About ⅛ cup or slightly less)

Instructions

  • Add the cream cheese and butter to a suitable mixing bowl. Beat the cream cheese and marge/ butter with a spoon for a few minutes until well incorporated.
  • Add the salt and vanilla. Mix well.
  • Add a few drops of milk, about an eighth of a cup. Mix until all the ingredients are evenly mixed.
  • Sieve the icing or powdered sugar. (Don’t skip this step for best results)
  • Gradually beat in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until fully incorporated.
  • Beat for a few minutes until you get to the thick heavy consistency needed.
If you must add a little milk to make the frosting thinner, keep in mind that powdered sugar dissolves really fast. Don’t add milk unless you are certain you must add. Even then, add a little drop at a time, mixing each time before adding another drop of milk.
  • Give the frosting a final beat for a few minutes until you get a thick smooth consistency. It doesn’t take you long to get there by the way. It takes a few minutes.
  • That's it! Your frosting is ready to use.

Tips for the Perfect No-Mixer Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • Use softened cream cheese and butter if you are using butter. This will make them easier to mix together. Because I use marge often, marge works just as well the way it is.
  • As I explained earlier, if the frosting is too thick, add a drop or two of milk or cream as needed.
  • If the frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  • You can flavor the frosting with different extracts, such as almond, lemon, orange, or strawberry.
  • You can also add food coloring to the frosting to create different colors.
