Homeschooling by faith

Homeschooling by faith has been one of the ways God has been teaching me what it really means to walk by faith.

“But my righteous one shall live by faith.” (Hebrews 10:38)

I’m not sure there is any area of the Christian life where we can truly live without exercising faith. And if we could, then we would have to ask ourselves whether we are really pleasing God, because “without faith it is impossible to please Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Homeschooling is certainly one of those areas where we must exercise faith.

From trusting God for provision, to recognizing that you have taken responsibility for your child’s education—both formal and informal, especially when you haven’t studied education as a course, to trusting that you are making progress even when it feels slow, that you are on the right track, and ultimately that your children will grow up and have a deep, abiding relationship with Jesus.

Homeschooling By Faith in Every Season

These past few months, during a particularly busy season, I have had to learn to walk by faith in homeschooling in a fresh way. Especially knowing that I have a high schooler and that our progress has been rather slow, I’ve had moments when I’ve had to remind myself: I have to trust God.

And I’m learning that this really is the only way to walk; not just in homeschooling, or rather home education, but in every area of life.

Sometimes I think that if my children were in public school, perhaps I wouldn’t have to exercise as much faith. But that isn’t true. Faith is necessary and key whatever educational path we choose.

And perhaps even more so when we choose to take responsibility for our children’s education. We have to trust God for wisdom, provision, strength, direction, and ultimately for the work He is doing in our children’s lives.

If you are homeschooling and you’re in a season where progress feels slow, perhaps you need this reminder as much as I do: God has not called us to homeschool in our own strength. We can trust Him for wisdom, strength, provision and grace for each day.

So, homeschooling is teaching me something I’m learning in every other area of my Christian walk: I cannot rely on what I see. I have to walk by faith. Homeschooling by faith means trusting God—not because I have everything figured out, but because I know the One who does.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
