Prayers for Christian Marriage
As we focus on prayers for Christian marriage today, it’s important to note that marriage is a divine institution designed by God to reflect His love, grace, and purpose.
However, with increasing divorce rates and dissatisfaction within marriages—including those in the body of Christ—it is evident that many couples are struggling to maintain godly relationships.
If you are seeking guidance on how to pray for your marriage, this article will provide five powerful prayers that align with God’s Word.
These are prayers I pray over my marriage every day and I’ve continued to see how God has graciously kept our marriage for 18 years and counting.
This is one of the main reasons why I felt I must share these prayers to help someone else experience a fulfilling fruitful marriage too.
As you pray these scriptures over your marriage, trust that God will intervene and bring healing, joy, and divine alignment with His will.

Praying for Your Marriage to Glorify God
The primary purpose of marriage is to glorify God. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
Just as creation glorifies God, so should our marriages.
I’ve come to learn that when I make my goal glorifying God in whatever I do, God has a way of causing me to experience contentment and fulfilment in my marriage without having undue expectations from my husband.
I almost feel like God makes it His business to help me experience His joy and peace because I’ve made Him my focus and delight.
When your marriage brings glory to God as you pray, you will experience true fulfillment, joy, and fruitfulness as you pray these prayers for Christian marriage.
.
Please make this prayer. You can use your own words too to pray that God will grant that your marriage will bring glory to God above all else.
Prayer: “Father, I dedicate my marriage to You. May our love, commitment, and unity bring glory to Your name. Help us to live in obedience to Your Word so that our relationship can be a testimony of Your faithfulness. Let everything we do as husband and wife reflect Your love, grace, and divine purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Praying for Your Marriage to Reflect Christ and the Church
Marriage is a representation of Christ’s relationship with His church.
Ephesians 5:22-33 outlines the roles of husbands and wives, emphasizing love, submission, and respect.
When a husband loves his wife as Christ loves the church, and a wife submits in reverence to her husband, their marriage becomes a living testimony of God’s design.
Yet, without God’s deep work in a husband to truly love his Wife as Christ loved the church, and a wife to submit to her husband as to the Lord, this is practically impossible with our human ability.
This is why I’ve made this part of my daily prayer, knowing that only God can help me submit to my husband as the the Bible commands and only God can help my husband love me as Christ loved the church.
Prayer changes things. The effectual prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16) Pray. God will answer this prayer because it’s in accordance with His will.
Prayer: “Lord, grant that our marriage will be a reflection of Christ and the Church. Teach me as a wife to submit in love and respect, and help my husband to love me as Christ loved the church. Let our marriage be a testimony to the world of Your perfect design. Strengthen our relationship so that we can honor You in all we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Praying for Companionship and Love in Marriage
God created marriage for companionship. Genesis 2:18 states, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Companionship in marriage fosters love, understanding, and support, making the union a place of emotional and spiritual growth.
Praying for companionship in marriage is praying the will of God. God wants us to experience the joy of companionship with our spouses.
Praying too for creativity to keep the sparkle and fire of your love as a couple burning despite the rigors and responsibilities that come with marriage is a wonderful prayer to pray.
I often trust God to work in my husband and I to love each other deeply in the Lord, having a deep friendship that helps us connect heart-to-heart.
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of companionship in marriage. Help us to love and cherish one another deeply. Strengthen our bond, remove any barriers that hinder our intimacy, and restore our joy in each other. May we always seek each other’s presence and find delight in our partnership. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Praying to Raise a Godly Offspring
God’s desire for marriage extends to raising a godly generation.
Malachi 2:15 says, “Has not the Lord made them one? In flesh and spirit, they are His. And why one? Because He was seeking godly offspring.”
As parents, it is our responsibility to lead our children in the ways of the Lord.
Our marriage is the context within which God wants this to happen. For us to raise our children in the ways of the Lord, we must pray specifically, trusting Him to show us how to do this just like Manoah of the Bible prayed:
“Then Manoah prayed to the LORD: “O LORD, I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born.” (Judg.13:8)
We want to also trust God as we pray prayers for our Christian marriage that He’ll show us how to pray for and parent each child as He has ordained. He knows the destiny of each child.
Praying to raise a godly offspring also means trusting God to supply all the resources we need for our child or children to be all that He has ordained them to be.
Raising a godly offspring in our time and generation is not going to be a walk in the park.
We have a lot competing for our children’s attention, (and ours too) with regard to how to parent them. One of the things competing for this attention is the media.
Only God, as we earnestly pray, will help us look to Him to teach us and show us how to raise each child according to His will alone.
Prayer: “Father, we commit our children to You. Help us to raise them in Your ways, teaching them to love and obey You. May our parenting reflect Your truth and grace, guiding them to walk in righteousness. Protect their hearts from worldly influences and grant them a deep desire to serve You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Praying for Your Marriage to Fulfill God’s Kingdom Purpose
Marriage is not just for personal happiness but also for fulfilling God’s greater plan.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 states, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
If we as a couple love God with all our hearts and want to see his kingdom purposes established here on earth, we know that two people united in Christ and in the bond of marriage will accomplish this in a deeper, greater, and wider way.
This is why you should commit to praying that your marriage will fulfill the Great Commission in Matt. 28:19-20.
When I got married and committed to pray for our marriage, I saw firsthand how God used my husband to bring out the best in me, and vise versa.
We both write Christian books, for instance. The first person to edit my book based on Proverbs 31 was my husband, helping me express my thoughts in a more fruitful and engaging way while adding what he felt I’d forgotten because he knows the ministry I do.
I on the other hand accompany my husband on ministry trips, edit his work when I can and offer constructive criticism to his ideas as he grows the ministry God has led us to do.
I know without a shadow of doubt that this is happening as a result of this commitment to pray for our marriage each day, specifically that as we pray prayers for our Christian marriage we would fruitfully serve the purposes of God as a couple.
A godly marriage should serve God’s mission of redemption and the establishment of His kingdom on earth.
Prayer: “Lord, use our marriage for Your glory. Let our union be a vessel through which Your kingdom is expanded. May our home be a place of peace, love, and encouragement for others. Strengthen our resolve to serve You together, and grant us opportunities to share Your love with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
