Starting a YouTube Channel at 40? Are you Serious?
Starting a YouTube Channel at 40 might sound unconventional, but at 43, I took that bold step—and it transformed my life, ministry, and calling.
I never imagined myself in front of a camera. I wasn’t tech-savvy or chasing online fame. But I had something I couldn’t shake off: a message burning in my heart and a desire to reach and disciple Christian women in homemaking, biblical womanhood, and everyday life.
In this blog, I share the journey that led me to YouTube, why I believe God called me to it, and why I believe you—yes, even at 40 or beyond—can step out too.
Why Start a YouTube Channel in Your 40s?
If you’re wondering whether it’s too late to start something new—especially online—let me reassure you: it’s not.
When I began, I had:
- No fancy camera
- No filming experience
- No professional editing skills

But I had:
- A God-given burden
- A message
- A desire to be faithful
Starting a YouTube Channel at 40 isn’t about following trends. It’s about obedience. It’s about realizing your life, testimony, and experience are tools in God’s hand, ready to bless others.
What Led Me to Start
Long before YouTube, I was already pouring into women through Bible studies, WhatsApp groups, baking lessons, and mentoring. But deep in my heart, I felt a gentle nudge: There’s more.
A Little Backstory
A few years ago, a young man we had mentored kept urging me to start a YouTube channel. He saw the discipleship work we were doing with young women, teaching homemaking and oven-free baking, and felt it was time to share it more widely.
I smiled politely, but I had no intention of starting. I thought:
- I’m not tech-savvy.
- YouTube is for younger people.
- Who would listen to me?
But he never gave up. Every visit, he would encourage me to give it a try.
Then came 2020. The pandemic forced us all inside. Suddenly, digital spaces became the new mission field. With a nudge from a young woman I had been mentoring, I started doing online Bible studies on Google Meet.
And slowly, God began to impress it on my heart—start a YouTube channel.
I didn’t know what I was doing. I made mistakes. Many. I wanted to quit often. But a conviction stayed with me. A few encouraging comments reminded me someone was watching. Someone was being helped. And that was enough.
Fast forward to today, I’ve grown one of my YouTube channels to over 50,000 subscribers and 2.4 million views—and countless testimonies of impact.
Starting a YouTube Channel at 40 became my answer to:
- Multiply the message God gave me
- Encourage women in homemaking, motherhood, and biblical living
- Show that obedience—no matter your age—is powerful
What I’ve Learned So Far
You might be surprised to hear this, but starting later in life is an advantage.
Here’s what I discovered:
- Clarity: I’m not chasing views or trends. I know my message.
- Maturity: I’ve lived through enough to share with wisdom and authenticity.
- Mission: I’m not building a brand—I’m walking in obedience.
If you want to start, ask yourself: What problem have I solved for years? Then imagine the “you” from five years ago—speak to her.
Yes, I had doubts:
- What if I mess up?
- What if no one watches?
- What if I’m too old?
I did mess up. Not many watched at first. But here’s what I’ve learned: Obedience doesn’t require perfection—it just needs a willing heart.
Why I Think You Should Start Too
Dear sister, if you’re even considering YouTube, here’s why I believe it’s worth it—no matter your age:
- Your voice matters. Your story has power.
- There’s room. The platform isn’t too full for another truth-speaking, God-glorifying woman.
- It glorifies God. Every upload, every word, can be ministry when rooted in Scripture.
Whether it’s baking, homemaking, motherhood, faith, or budgeting—God can use it.
5 Simple Tips to Get Started
Feeling that holy nudge? Here’s how I began, and how you can too:
-
Start with what you have.
My first videos were filmed with my husband’s simple Nokia phone, no tripod, no ring light—just natural lighting and shaky hands. Those videos are still up on my channel, a reminder of humble beginnings. Don’t despise small starts.
-
Choose one focus area.
What topic comes naturally to you? Start there. In hindsight, I wish I had narrowed my focus earlier. If you’re multi-passionate, begin with the topic that intersects your passion, skill, and potential for financial sustainability—it will help you build consistency.
-
Keep it simple.
Don’t overthink content. Be honest and helpful. Some of my most-viewed videos are everyday recipes I recorded while making supper!

-
Don’t wait for confidence.
You grow as you go. I didn’t start confident—I grew in confidence because I started. Be faithful and keep learning. Your camera presence and editing will improve with time.
-
Pray over each video.
This is not just content—it’s ministry. I pray over each idea and upload, trusting God to use my words, recipes, and routines to encourage others. Even if you don’t pray on camera, commit your process to the Lord.
Final Encouragement
Maybe you’re thinking, “I’ve missed my chance.” But if God is still stirring your heart—then your time is now.
I started a YouTube Channel at 40+ with nothing but willingness. And I’ve watched God bless that step of obedience in ways I could never have imagined.
So if you’ve been waiting for a sign—consider this it.
Your voice is needed. Your obedience matters.
Now may be your time to start.
