WHAT IS YOUR SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION LIKE? LET’S TALK BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS

My husband and I watched with trepidation, (or was it horror?) as the foundation we were witnessing getting laid, literally “swallow up” our start-up resources. I had personally never witnessed a building being done right from the foundation.

During one of those days, we sat down and wondered: Are we actually prepared to see this house built and completed, to the very end?

These words below that Jesus spoke, resounded afresh in our ears; It was as if Jesus was reading our minds:

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” (Luke 14:28)

If it wasn’t that we were convinced that God had spoken to us to build the second structure of CHADET Centre, (Character Development and Training Centre) we would have given up entirely.

Days have turned into weeks; weeks to months…It is now three years. But the memories are as fresh as the day! The house I am featuring is (dubbed) Jabez Tent House, our current abode!

What am I getting at? Well, the foundation of something is very important. It will determine whether this “something” will be able to stand the test of time through various circumstances, or not.

You may already be asking: What is foundation? What do you mean by foundation?

I googled the meaning of foundation by Google’s English Dictionary. This is what I found:

The lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level.

Dictionary.com defined it as:

The basis or groundwork of anything.

I now hope you have some clarity of what I am talking about.

In this first post here, I wrote that Formations of a Noble Woman is a story of how the Spirit is metamorphosizing you and I into women God can pick and use for His noble purposes.

I also wrote that what I have captured by the word Formations is actually the process, experiences and journey whose end is a noble woman, wife, and or mother because they are growing in character to the glory of God.

If indeed Foundation defines the basis or groundwork of anything, then Formations of a Noble Woman is one of those things that must have a foundation. In our next blog post, we will find out what this foundation is. In this post though, we will simply explore one aspect of the Foundation mentioned in the two definitions then apply this to our lives as women.

Definition 1, talks of a foundation being typically below ground level. Definition 2, talks of a foundation being the groundwork of anything.

It is therefore right to conclude that as much as the foundation can be costly and engaging as it were, it is also the part of “something” that will not necessarily be seen.

It will not be seen yet it is determinant of whether what you are building will hold up or give way, over time.

What does this have to do with formations of a noble woman?

Much in every way!

Formations is about the forming of a woman so they can be the noble, virtuous woman God wants them to be. What better place to start than with her foundation! What better place to work on than on the foundation!

Well, what is my foundation like?

What is yours like?

Jesus says in Matthew 7:24 – 27

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

Jesus gives the illustration of two men who built houses. The houses faced similar circumstances. The results were however totally different. Why? The foundation. The groundwork.

However beautiful the houses looked, if the builder didn’t get to the basement rock; if he built on sand, his house would definitely fall if faced with the conditions Jesus described.

For a woman who desires to be formed into a virtuous noble woman, then the question is: What should my foundation be like? I will attempt to answer this question in the next blog post.

You and I must therefore not focus on what is seen before we have sorted matters foundation.

Before we take that face powder, lipstick, deodorant, read or watch the how to… articles or videos, let’s call ourselves for a brief meeting and ask the hard questions like: Seriously, who am I when no one is watching? If all my makeup, look lovely, gorgeous body and all the “wanna be” things around me would be removed, what would remain? Do I truly possess the inner beauty the Lord cherishes? Why do I struggle with anger, or maybe envy or jealousy? Am I a letter that can be read by others?

I hope you are beginning to see that without the right foundation, it’s just a matter of time; all that I’m building up, all that I’m seeking to become, will fall, and great will be the fall!
