8 Proverbs 31 Business Lessons Every Christian Mompreneur Should Know

Proverbs 31 business lessons

As we think about Proverbs 31 business lessons for the Christian mom, there’s a lot we can learn from the Scriptures through the Proverbs 31 chapter.

Finances can be a recurring challenge for many stay-at-home moms. With one income—usually our husband’s—budgeting and stretching resources often becomes a daily concern.

Yet, even amid limitations, God’s Word gives us wisdom, hope, and practical direction. Yes, it even speaks into areas like creativity, entrepreneurship, and income generation from within the walls of our homes.

Learning Proverbs 31 business lessons

A few years ago, God led me to start training women on Biblical womanhood based on the Proverbs 31 chapter.

This discipleship meant sharing my life with the women to demonstrate that the principles I was sharing are real and they work in day-to-day life.

Because my husband and I were serving God with a Christian organization, we raised our support from partners who believed in what we were doing.

As I taught the women, I began to have a desire to demonstrate to the women that the entrepreneurial principles shared in Proverbs 31 work.

I began praying those “entrepreneurial” Scriptures in Proverbs 31, trusting God that I would be able to share very practical examples concerning entrepreneurship because I was applying the principles to my life.

Another motivating factor for this praying was because our support covered our basic needs and not necessarily any extras. I wanted to buy a few things such as books for our children to read, a few other household items that would help facilitate our hospitality ministry, and to support the ministry I was doing with women.

I began trusting God to lead me to an entrepreneurial venture. God graciously did. I’m truly grateful that what He led me to do also aligns with His calling upon my life. You can read all about my ventures in this blog here.

At the writing of this post, the ventures have not got profitable enough to cover every expense in our household and ministry. They are growing though, covering a significant percentage of our hospitality ministry and the ministry expenses covering what I do in ministry to the women.

Proverbs 31 business lessons Work!

Also, God has not only used them to affirm that the Proverbs 31 entrepreneurial lessons work, I have proof of concept concerning the ventures I’m involved in, plus solid examples to share with women when we cover the business aspect of the Proverbs 31 woman.

Today, I want to share 8 entrepreneurial lessons I’ve learned from the Proverbs 31 woman—a God-fearing woman who teaches us that home and business can beautifully work together under God’s leadership.

They also stem from my experience and the experiences of others I’ve learned from. I know they are solid and true because they are scriptural.

1. She Kept Her Priorities in Order

This may look like it’s far from entrepreneurship but for a Christian mom, this is key.

Before she invested in land or sold garments, the Proverbs 31 woman had her foundation right:

  • God first: “A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).
  • Her husband second: “The heart of her husband trusts in her…” (v. 11).
  • Her children next: “Her children rise up and call her blessed” (v. 28).

No matter how entrepreneurial she became, her home remained her first ministry. That’s a powerful reminder for us as Christian moms.

to have a God-glorifying business, keep your priorities in order, one of which is prioritizing time with your family

For you to have a solid base for a business that honors God, you must have your priorities aligned.

There were seasons I had to pause or slow down on my business ventures—not because I lacked passion, but because my family needed me more.

Profitability from God’s perspective is about investing in those in your household as a priority before nurturing that venture.

Even in the seasons when you need lots of input for a venture to start off and thrive, God will give you wisdom to navigate that season now that it’s for a time.

I’ve often worked for an hour or two more than usual after my family has gone to bed and early morning to navigate a heavy entrepreneurial engagement, knowing it’s for a season, rather than compromising the hours I spend with my family.

This is an example of how to navigate a busy startup season to ensure you have your priorities right.

God honors the woman who tends to her first calling—her home.

2. She Considered Before She Committed

“She considers a field and buys it…” (Proverbs 31:16)

That one word—considers—reminds us to pause and pray. As Christian mompreneurs, we need to ask:

  • Will this business or venture pull me away from my home responsibilities?
  • Is this God’s timing or just my excitement?
  • Can I realistically do this with my current family schedule?

Every venture I’ve taken—whether launching a blog, starting a YouTube channel, or writing books—required that careful consideration.

Starting small, praying often, and thinking long-term makes a huge difference.

Don’t start a business venture for example because your friend started and she’s succeeding at it. Start because you’ve taken the time to consider. You’ve taken time to pray, trusting God to lead you so you can do what He’s leading you to do.

God has created each of us uniquely. He alone knows what He wants you to do and the unique problem He wants you to solve. Talk to Him as your Father, reflectively trusting Him for His leading.

God will guide you towards creating your home economy fruitfully and sustainably.

3. She Started With What She Had

The Proverbs 31 woman didn’t wait for perfect conditions. She used what she had—wool, flax, her hands—and turned it into something valuable.

I began my entrepreneurial journey with a borrowed phone, minimal equipment, and zero experience. If you have a gift—writing, teaching, crafting, cooking—use it. Start from where you are.

Your kitchen table could be your boardroom. Your sewing machine, your startup capital. Your voice, your ministry.

start with what you have when starting a business as a Christian mom

What’s in your hand dear mama? It might be what you need… to start.

4. She Was Diligent and Faithful

“She rises while it is still night… her lamp does not go out” (Proverbs 31:15,18).

I’m not sure I have seen a more diligent woman than the Proverbs 31 woman. Her diligence is unmatched. If you’re like me, you can get intimidated by her hard work. Thankfully, she’s a prototype; an example set for us in Scripture to emulate.

She was consistent. And consistency, not perfection, builds momentum.

When God led me to start a YouTube channel and later a corresponding blog, there were days I wanted to quit—especially when YouTube views dipped or blog traffic stalled. But God would gently nudge me: “Show up, daughter. Keep going.” So I did. And over time, faithfulness bore fruit.

As Christian entrepreneurs, we may not see instant profit, but obedience is never wasted.

Go in with the mindset that you’re in for the long haul. God is interested not only in the result but also in the process.

God is using the process of waiting and trusting to build you up, preparing you for what He has in store. No time, experience, or even failure is in vain. He is working it all out to glorify His name in and through your life.

5. She Planned and Managed Her Time Well

“She looks well to the ways of her household…” (v. 27)

Planning and time management are crucial. She rose early, prepared for winter, and ran her home like a well-ordered ministry.

For me, that meant trading late nights for early mornings—rising before the children to pray, plan, and produce.

I’m also careful with how I plan my days. Establishing a simple routine to ensure I don’t waste my minutes during the day helps me to account for each hour of my day, ensuring it is fruitfully used.

You don’t have to follow someone else’s routine—but find what works and stick to it.

You can’t grow a business or serve your home if you’re constantly wasting time or engaging in time wasting activities such as scrolling on the phone or oversleeping, I’ve written all about destructive habits that hinder you from reaching your God ordained potential here.

6. She Made Wise Investments

“She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.” (v. 16)

Notice: she reinvested her earnings.

As your business grows—even a little—reinvest. Whether that’s improving your skills, upgrading equipment, or outsourcing small tasks, think long-term.

One of the first things I invested in was better lighting for YouTube. Later, I put money into a blog domain.

I’ve continued investing in my business to date, trusting God to be more fruitful and effective as I serve others through it, including engaging someone to help with ensuring the ministry angle of my entrepreneurial ventures is not compromised.

It’s easy to keep buying things you’d like your family to have. Delayed gratification isn’t easy. Your investment though, may mean more profitability in the future.

Start small, keep learning, maintain accountability, and trust God with the harvest.

7. She Prioritized People Over Profit

Her husband trusted her. Her children blessed her. Her community praised her. That didn’t happen because she was rich—it happened because she was right with God and valued people over things.

Entrepreneurship can tempt us to chase numbers. But our goal isn’t just profit—it’s ministry. Don’t let income goals compromise integrity, time with your kids, or Sabbath rest.

Ask yourself often:

  • Am I doing this for the glory of God?
  • Are my relationships thriving alongside my business?
  • Is this business contributing to an eternal investment in others?

We’re not building empires. We’re building legacies.

Building legacies is about building people as well as structures that will facilitate the building of coming generations.

8. She Protected Her Reputation

“Her husband is known at the city gates…” (v. 23)

The Proverbs 31 woman didn’t just build a brand—she built a trustworthy name. Your character matters more than your platform.

In business be known with virtues like honesty, grace, diligence, faithfulness, and humility.

Be a light even online. Let your yes be yes. Don’t overpromise or underdeliver. Don’t compromise truth for reach.

In a digital world of filters and edits, be real. Be authentic. Be rooted. Be Christ-like.

Final Thoughts: You Are Capable, Called, and Covered

The Proverbs 31 woman isn’t a standard to shame us—but a picture to encourage us. God doesn’t need perfection—He desires obedience.

So whether you’re just dreaming of launching a home business or you’re already in the trenches of content creation, remember:

  • You’re not behind.
  • You’re not too late.
  • You’re not too limited.

With God, your home can be a hub of hospitality, ministry, and yes—even entrepreneurship.

Start small. Stay faithful. Keep Christ first. He will bless the work of your hands.
